I WILL GIVE A MEDAL TO WHOEVER HELPS ME! In a quadrilateral MNOP the length of side MN is (6x - 7) units and the length of side ON is (4x + 9) units. What value of x will make it a rhombus?

OpenStudy (raden):

MN = ON

hartnn (hartnn):

A rhombus has all sidws equal. so, you make an equation using MN=ON then solve for 'x'

hartnn (hartnn):

*sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you :)

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^ by the way, what value of 'x' you got ?? just to verify.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm about to solve the equations (: Give me a couple minutes ? :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equation *

hartnn (hartnn):

sure, take your time :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got x=2

hartnn (hartnn):

thats is not correct. can you please show your work, so that i can find the error.... ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did it on my scientific calculator :( May you set up the equation for me and walk me through it ?

hartnn (hartnn):

sure, MN=ON will give you. 6x-7 = 4x+9 , right ? now add 7 on both sides, what you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18 ?

hartnn (hartnn):

18 ? how ? what is 9+7=... ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I miscounted :( Sorry . It's 16

hartnn (hartnn):

correct. so you have 6x=4x+16. now subtract 4x from both sides, what you get ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 ?

hartnn (hartnn):

2 what ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x

hartnn (hartnn):

right, so now you have 2x = 16 just divide 2 on both sides and you'll get the value of x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is 8

hartnn (hartnn):

x=8 is \[\checkmark\]
