Explain how the formula for the area of a parallelogram is derived from that of a rectangle.

area = base*height essentially a parallelogram is same as rectangle |dw:1357580688020:dw| triangle 1 is identical to triangle 2, thus the parellelogram has same area as rectangle shown with dotted lines
