Provide details to show that you understand how changing the time, possibly the place, and the context may change the character’s response to the obstacle he or she faces and the tools or resources that he or she has to deal with the obstacle. The character who is time traveling today is _________________________________________. Current Context The current context takes place in ________________ (year) and ____________________ (place). Describe the following based on the current context: Events: Culture: Values and Beliefs: Innovations: New Context The new context takes place in ________________ (year) and ____________________ (place). Describe the following based on the new context: Events: Culture: Values and Beliefs: Innovations: How the Context Influences the Character Describe three ways that this new context will influence the character's response and ability to deal with his or her obstacle. 1.Example: The new context is 1800, 210 years earlier than the context in the novel. The absence of computer technology and simultaneous communication (telephones) would make it so the character has to work out the problem independently. He would not have knowledge gained through internet searches, and he would not have the instant or constant support of friends and family who live far away from him. He would have to wait for letters, which would arrive too late. Working through the problem by himself may make the character stronger, but it also could make it so that he does not successfully overcome the obstacle. 1. 2. 3.
