Piaget's theory give us four stages of cognitive development, in this order: 1. Sensorimotor stage (from birth - age 2) 2. Pre-operational stage (from age 2- age 7) 3. Concrete operational stage (from age 7 - age 11) 4. Formal operational stage (from age 11 or 12, and beyond) So it's clear to us which stage is the first, and which stage is the last.
