a student holding a book is inside an elevator. suddenly the elevator cables break. where thus the book go? above or on the floor? why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the lift falls at an accelaration equal to 9.8 m/s^2 the book will float ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathavraj weightlessness in free fall right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@praveenroyg can you please explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It will go above because the elevator has a greater mass and is falling at a faster rate than the book which has a smaller mass and slower rate.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

The elevator is in free fall and everything will become weightless and float in the elevator's cabin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

floating happens!!!!
