system as an ordered pair (X,Y)? y = -3x + 5 y = 2x + 5 Can someone please explain to me how you do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Substitution method: set them equal and solve for x Elimination method: subtract the 2 equations and solve for x

Subtract the second equation from the first: \[ \begin{array}{rcl} &y &=& -3x &+& 5 \\ -&y &=& 2x &+& 5 \\ \\ &0 &=& -5x&+&0 \end{array} \]Meaning \(x=0\) Plug it into either equation to get \(y\)
