· What are plates? · What were the 3 key pieces of evidence Wegner used to support his theory of continental drift (he also noted the similarities in minerals found)? · What is the theory of continental drift? · What is Pangaea? · What is the theory of plate tectonics? o The ‘puzzle’-like fit between which two continents was Wegner’s strongest support of plate tectonics? · Which theory (continental drift or plate tectonics) is considered more of a scientific fact? · What is a hotspot? · How did a hotspot help Hawaii to form?

I think tectonic plates are continental-sized bits of the Earth's crust which float about a bit, albeit on a geologically slow pace. Pangaea is the name given to the large land mass that existed once way back in time - the various continents split apart and moved to their present positions. Because they once all fitted together the continents tend to look like jigsaw puzzle pieces which have moved apart. Hope this helps a bit,
