[5.02] Choose the correct description of the graph of the compound inequality. x - 3 < -7 or x + 5 8 (4 points) A number line with an open circle on -4, shading to the left, and a closed circle on 3, shading to the right. A number line with a closed circle on -4, shading to the left, and an open circle on 3, shading to the right. A number line with an open circle on -4, a closed circle on 3, and shading in between. A number line with a closed circle on -4, an open circle on 3, and shading in between.

Just two questions ! Please help me? I desperately need it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the first equation 2x-1=11?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will help you with the first one but can you please post the other question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah Its missing a symbol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following is not a way to represent the solution of the inequality 2x - 1 < -7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BUT that greater than sign thing has a line under it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the x 6 and 6 x what is missing there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The same sign, each going diffferent ways < that and > With a line under it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well first you have to solve the equation. \[2x - 1 \le -7\] add 1 on both sides, then divide that by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mhm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay, So how do i get the answer? Like i dont understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well x<=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well yeah but like its not a answer choice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Frostbite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a waste of my time? Im guessing this one.

OpenStudy (phi):

you can write ≤ as <= it means less than or equal. you can plot x ≤ -3 on a number line. use a solid (filled in) dot at -3 btw, if it were x < 3 (x less than 3) you would use an open circle at -3) but for x ≤ -3, a solid dot at -3, and show all the x values less than -3 by shading in the numbers less that -3 (that would be in the direction of -4, to the left)

OpenStudy (phi):

also, x ≤ -3 is the same as -3 ≥ x (x less than or equal to -3 is the same as -3 is greater than or equal to x) with that info and the above post, you can answer your first question 2x - 1 ≤ 11 first solve for x,

OpenStudy (phi):

the 2nd question x - 3 < -7 or x + 5 8 has two parts, either x < -4 or x is (whatever the relation operator) 3 the < on x < -4 means an open circle at -4. shading to the left (toward more neg #'s) You will have to figure out the 2nd equation.
