in a group of cows and chickens there were 29 heads and 78 feet. how many cows and how many chickens were there

I guess you could do it like this

x=cow
y=chicken

29 heads so that means 29 total chickens and cows

x+y=29

cows have 4 feet, chickens have 2 so

4x+2y=78

now you have two simultaneous equations
