Which of the following has no solution? a) (x + 1 < -1) ∩ (x + 1 < 1) b) (x + 1 ≤ 1) ∩ (x + 1 ≥ 1) c) (x + 1 < 1) ∩ (x + 1 > 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it's c? but i'm not entirely sure.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[(x + 1 < 1) ∩ (x + 1 > 1)\] \[(x < 0 ) ∩ (x > 0 )\] the union of x less than zero and x greater than zero is \[x≠0\] so all real numbers are solutions except zero

Thank you so much for the explanation, my lesson on this wasn't helpful at all. Thanks again:)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

a), b), c) all have solutions ,

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

for a) the solution set is all negative numbers for b) the solution set is all real numbers
