Ms. Bak is placed under a shrink ray. Every day for a week, the ray depreciates her height by 25%. Afterwards, to get her height back to normal, she goes under a growth ray for a week. This appreciates her height by 25% daily. Sadly, this does not bring her height back to normal. In fact, she is still what percent shorter than when she began?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Since her height lowers by 25% per day, that means after each day she is 75% of her previous day's height. Let's say her original height was 100 units After day 1: 0.75 x 100 = 75 After day 2: 56.25 After day 3: 42.1875 After day 4: 31.6406 After day 5: 23.7305 After day 6: 17.798 After day 7: 13.348 Now she starts to grow by 25% per day. Every day she becomes 100% + 25% of her previous day's height. After day 1: 1.25 x 13.348 = 16.685 After day 2: 20.857 After day 3: 26.071 After day 4: 32.5888 After day 5: 40.736 After day 6: 50.9201 After day 7: 63.650 Her new height is 63.950. Her original height was 100, so she lost 36.350 units. Since this is 36.650 units out of 100 units, it's a 36.650% decrease
