OpenStudy (ammarah):

zone of the ocean which one would find large organisms such as tuna, sharks, and dolphins.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sounds like the photic zone. They call it "photic" because enough light can penetrate this zone, for photosynthesis.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

how about 2 down in the crossword

OpenStudy (ammarah):

it doesnt fit photic

OpenStudy (ammarah):

So far on the crossword i got 1 across lichen, 6 across abiotic, 12 across secondary,11 across taiga, 14 across biome, 20 across ten, 23 across biosphere......27 across bacteria....13 across and 16 down i think r the same : symbiosis...15 down is organisms, 4 down is herbivore Please see if all these are correct so far...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sometimes we call the it "euphotic" zone.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

but then 4 down and 15 down dont make sense cause that word wont fit

OpenStudy (ammarah):

and it still doesnt fit

OpenStudy (ammarah):

the word itself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this the chapter 3 & 4 crossword?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

yes

OpenStudy (ammarah):

did u get the answer yet????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. I'm going through the powerpoint. Euphotic wouldn't fit either.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

oh the powerpoint opens?? i tried so hard to open it but it wont open on my laptop

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's weird.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

nvm it opens

OpenStudy (ammarah):

r u comparing my answers to ur's? and did u get any others yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13 Across is "mutualism." It was asking us for a specific type of symbiosis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15 Down is asking us for a specific niche. Vultures and crayfish are organisms, but they each do something different, in the environment. They eat dead animals. So, we call them "scavengers."

OpenStudy (ammarah):

for 13 i just spelled it wrong thats y it wouldn fit! lol whats the rest of them...there hard to find..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just "scavenger" is fine.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

yeah i put that

OpenStudy (ammarah):

tell me when ur done k?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you looking through it too? There might be some I miss that you might find.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

yes i am

OpenStudy (ammarah):

7 down is water

OpenStudy (ammarah):

i gave u most of the answers in the previous messages did u take a look at them?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

did u get anyy so faar...ugh im getting sleepy but i wanna start studying right now for fri.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've got everything except 27 Across. I'm looking for it now.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

i got bacteria for that one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it. You can use these answers to help you study. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ACROSS 1. Lichen 6. Abiotic 9. Tundra 11. Taiga 12. Secondary 13. Mutualism 14. Biome 17. Pelagic 18. Estuary 19. Niche 20. Ten 21. Nitrate 23. Biosphere 26. Permafrost 27. Protozoa 28. Pyramid 29. Fossil fuel ~~~~~~~~~~~~ DOWN 2. Community 3. Population 4. Herbivore 5. Climax 7. Water 8. Decomposer 10. Deciduous 15. Scavenger 16. Symbiosis 22. Grassland 24. Diatoms 25. Photic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have a question with any of these vocab words, I can explain them for you.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

isnt 17 across benthic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Benthic does fit, doesn't it? I don't remember having seen it in the powerpoint though. And I just asked google if sharks live in the benthic zone. I found that they don't.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sharks, I believe, live closer to the surface, and farther out into the ocean. The Pelagic zone is the part of the ocean that is far from shore, and also far from the bottom.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

i dont get 26 across

OpenStudy (ammarah):

wait nvm

OpenStudy (ammarah):

i meant 29 across and 27 across

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What don't you get about them?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

oh wait i get it lol

OpenStudy (ammarah):

u know for the wkst from yesterday

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

i didnt get the last question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What was it again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, the Ponderosa Pine provides animals with bark, twigs, and leaves, yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Ponderosa Pine is probably also home to birds. And it also provides acorns.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, all in all, the Ponderosa Pine provides many things: Bark, Twigs, Leaves, Acorns, and bird eggs (because it's home to birds.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, what if the Ponderosa Pines died? Do you see all the animals that eat the things that are given by the Ponderosa Pines?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah you do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The bark beetle, for example, eats bark.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the Ponderosa Pine provides that bark. You get it?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

oh so u mean the three populations would be extinct without the ponderosa pine right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not extinct. Because it wouldn't be that dramatic. But you've got the right idea. There are three animals, in the picture, that depend on the Ponderosa Pine, for food. (Bark beetle is one of them) And if the number of Ponderosa Pines went down, those three populations of animals would also go down.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

so bark beetle, gray squirrel and what else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bark beetles eat bark. Mule deer eat twigs, leaves, and acorns. Gray squirrels eat pine cones, acorns, and bird eggs. All three of these animals depend on the Ponderosa Pine, for food. And if the number of Ponderosa Pines went down, these three animals would have a very limited food source. Therefore, their populations would decrease, because many of them would die. You get that?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

ye i got it. im going to study the crossword and i have this other worksheet on symbiosis that i need help on...could u take a look at it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you send me the link in my inbox? I'll take a look at it when I've got time, but right now, I do have to go.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

Ohk Sure thanks! but its due by Friday so please do come online tomm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand how to do the worksheet?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

Yes i got the first box that i need u to check and im doing the rest of them so u can check it..

OpenStudy (ammarah):

it is confusing so i want to make sure that im doing it right.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

ill be done with it by tomorrow for u to check it k?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. You go ahead and give it your best. I'll look over it with you tomorrow.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All you really need to know is the difference between.... Mutualism, Commensalism, and Parasitism.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

Thankyou soo much!!

OpenStudy (ammarah):

Yeah i get that part but the reading whew..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. I'll talk to you later.
