am i right with this?? Ammonium acetate reacts with NaOH to give Sodium acetate, ammonia gas and water.

OpenStudy (jfraser):

looks right to me

i observed the fume inside test tube when i added HCl into the solution... i mean after adding NaOH to Ammonium acetate why is that?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

not sure without doing the reaction, but you might be generating more ammonia, which fumes out. you might be generating hydrogen gas, which now that I think about it seems more likely
