Mathematics 7 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

5(a+3) = 11a+14-5a

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Expand the left side: \[5(a+3) = 5a + (5)(3) = 11a + 14 - 5a\] Now collect like terms \[5a + 15 = 6a + 14\] Subtract 5a from both sides, and subtract 14 from both sides \[5a - 5a + 15 - 14 = 6a - 5a + 14 - 14\] Collect like terms again \[1 = a\] Easy as pi :-)
