Why did the Supreme Court ruling in Korematsu v. United States (1944) anger supporters of civil liberties? It affirmed the declaration of war against all people of Japanese descent. It made the internment of certain American citizens legitimate. It granted Japanese Americans compensation for property seized during wartime. It placed limits on the civil rights of all Asian immigrants.

This was hugely controversial and one of the more embarrassing decisions by the Supreme Court. It essentially affirmed the government's order to intern American-Japanese citizens in camps (specifically those in California) for security reasons based on race.
