Why is Darwin’s theory of natural selection sometimes described as "survival of the fittest"?

To explain, let me give you an example scenario:

Pretend there's an island, where two kinds of birds live.

Birds WITH sharp beaks,
and birds WITHOUT sharp beaks.

And the only source of food on the island, for birds, is nuts, with hard shells.

A bird would need a sharp beak, in order to crack open the nuts, and get food.

So, what would happen to all the birds WITHOUT the sharp beaks?

They would die. They would starve to death.
Because they don't have the right kind of beak, to crack open the hard shells.

"Survival of the fittest" says that in order to survive in a certain environment,
an organism must have the right tools, the right physiology, in order to survive.

In my example,
you could see that in order to survive, the birds needed the right kind of beak.

Animals with thick fur,
