Liquid mercury has a fixed volume but not fixed shape. Explain in terms of arrangement of molecules.

I guess that is what a liquid is-it has got no fixed shape but a fixed volume. It is the characteristics of most of the general liquids. The intermolecular forces are strong enough to mantain a constant intermolecular distance but not strong enough to provide it rigidity to mantain its shape.
