Some properties of the light can be explained only if we consider it as made up of particles like during the absorption of light. While some properties can be explained only by considering it as a wave like interference. This wave particle duality is bridged by Planck's theory. Energy of a quantum of light(photon),E=hv where v is the frequency of the light.
lets make it simple... In photoelectric effect light is considered to have particle nature in diffraction light is considered to have wave nature
