How would you define what a rational exponemet is? Is there such a thing as an irrational exponent? explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exponent is number to multiply a number by itself. An exponent can be any manipulation of numbers, so if there can be irrational numbers, there can be irrational exponents.

I have to evaluated or simplify the numerical expressions for question 11 1/2 * 11^3

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

is that 11 1/2 or 11^ (1/2) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11^1/2

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ok when you multiply expressions of this form you add the exponents eg x^2 * x^3 = x^5

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

so here we have |dw:1357853483198:dw|
