OpenStudy (texaschic101):

6 = -3(x + 4) -- multiply -3 through the parenthesis 6 = -3x - 12 -- add 12 to both sides to get -3x by itself 6 + 12 = -3x - 12 + 12 (combine like terms) 18 = - 3x -- divide by -3 to get x by itself 18/-3 = -3x/-3 -6 = x check... 6 = -3(x + 4) 6 = -3(-6 + 4) 6 = -3(-2) 6 = 6 (correct) ANSWER : x = -6
