@blondie16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well do you know what the vlt is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mikaela, the only rule of a function is that each input must have only one output. If there is any input that has 2 outputs, then we say that it is not a function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

put those points on a graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's more work than you need to do. If the vertical line test is the ONLY way that you can understand what a function is, then sure, I guess you should plot the points. It's not really necessary though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well if you have more than 1 of the same x value it is not a function right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think of it in terms of inputs and outputs. A function takes in inputs, and it gives out outputs. If I put in an input (an x value) what comes out should be exactly 1 y value. If more than one y value comes out, that's a problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This map shows that if I put in 6, the output is -5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I put in 3, the output is 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I put in 2, the output is 6 and 7.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you reading my explanation and trying to understand, or are you hoping that I'll tell you the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no im reading your explantion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Re-read it.
