An advantage of light microscopes compared to electron microscopes is that light microscopes

Light microscopes are better for seeing larger structures, whilst electron microscopes are better for seeing smaller ones. For example, when viewing a cell, the light microscope can see the whole cell, you can look at it's structure, perhaps if you stain you can see other features. But it's not that easy to do that with an electron microscope - which is better for viewing smaller things like ribosomes.

also, you can observe live specimens with the light microscope, but not with the SEM

Oh yes, or things moving quickly for that matter eg. across the scope.
