That is because the Earth is round(More specifically oblate spheroid).Very long ago people thought that Earth was flat. But a famous astronomer of that time when travelled to Africa figured out that in the southern part of the world we can see more constellations than we do in northern hemisphere.He found that it is only possible when the Earth was round.
