OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give an analogy for the synapse. ''A synapse is like.....because.....''

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you supposed to fill in the dashes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah we are.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

Please help when ur free !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I had a professor who mentioned something about airport terminals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's crazy, a synapse is like many things, its the space between a neuron and another cell(neural or muscular) not sure what they want to see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know. There are so many kinds of synapses, I can't come up with a definitive metaphor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It most likely has to do with nerves, hmm its like a channel through which impulses are transmited from a nerve cell to another cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You mean synapses most likely have to do with nerves? Yeah, that's true. We're trying to come up with a good metaphor for synapses. Maybe we could compare synapses to...phone lines. You know, because they connect neurons together, and allow information to be transferred from one neuron to the next neuron.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The PROBLEM with the phone-line metaphor is that.... with neurons, information usually only travels ONE way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lym if that's a questions, write it back down for your teacher, add as**ole to the bottom of the page then submit, works like a charm....'

OpenStudy (ammarah):

IS ANUYONE LISTENENG TO MEEEEE

OpenStudy (ammarah):

LOL SRY GUYS

OpenStudy (ammarah):

that was my frickken brother...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Smack him. Smack him hard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, he's smart

OpenStudy (anonymous):

buy him cookies

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dramaqueen Do you have any ideas for a metaphor? One in which information can only be relayed one-way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could we use a plug and socket?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I think we could. Electrical impulses go from the end of the plug, into the socket. And the plug itself would be just like an axon terminal. That's a good metaphor.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

dont worry guys i did smack him... Scoop of chocalate, scoop of vanilla, don't waste my time.......is what i told him LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what about the because part?

OpenStudy (ammarah):

help......

OpenStudy (ammarah):

someone help me.......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We can describe what a synapse does. Synapses seal the gap between two neurons, allowing information to travel from one neuron, to another. When you take a plug, and you plug it into an outlet, you are also sealing the gap in between two pathways.
