Pacific time zone is 3 hours behind Eastern time zone. The sun rises in the east, and sets in the west, so any given time happens first in the east. If you pick up the phone in California at 5:06 PM Pacific time and call your friend in New York, will they have just eaten lunch, or dinner? :-)
