The area of a triangle is (1/2)bh, or half the product of the base and height. You can choose any side as the base. Then the height is the altitude drawn to that side from the opposite vertex. An altitude is a segment drawn from a vertex to the opposite side or the line containing the opposite side and is perpendicular to the opposite side or to the line containing the opposite side. In your case, assuming angle H is a right angle, then the base of the triangle is IC, or 7 cm, and the height is HK, or 8 cm. A = (1/2)bh = (1/2)(7 cm)(8 cm) = 28 cm^2
