What is the length of the conjugate axis?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

@tkhunny can you do this one? I need to go eat dinner. Thanks. @erin512, I hope you've gotten a better understanding of this stuff!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much for your help @whpalmer4 i really appreciate it! :)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Eyeball Problem. b^2 = 144 b = 12 2b = 24 Done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 24 is the final answer and thats it?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Hyperbolas are a little different in their defintions. Ellipse: Transverse Axis is ALWAYS the one of greater length. Hyperbola: Transverse Axis is the one with the vertices on it.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

One you identfy the Transverse and Conjugate axes, it's as simple as that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay, so its 24 then correct?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You tell me. Is it or isn't it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if 2b=the length of the conjugate axis then its correct

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

That's it. Part of the learning of mathematics is gaining confidence in its defintions. See how you said that? It was perfect. If these are the conditions, then this is the answer. \(perfect^{2}\)

thank you so much :)
