How many solutions are there for the system shown below?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 = 100 -4y^2 4y - x^2 = -20 4y - (100-4y^2) = -20 4y - 100 +4y^2 = -20 4y^2 +4y -80 = 0 y^2 +y -20 = 0 (y+5)(y-4) = 0 y= -5 or y= 4 2 solutions!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your great at this :) thank you so much!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know this? What is the maximum number of intersection points a hyperbola and a circle could have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 2 solutions! when y=-5 x=0, but when y=4, x=6 or x=-6. so there are three solutions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see, so there are definitely 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much marsss :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the other question: maximum number of intersection points are 4!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome bro :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thought it was 4 :) thanks so much, can you help me with another one.. i'll repost it now :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh right, sorry I missed that
