POEM HELP PLZZ

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good times my daddy has paid the rent and the insurance man is gone and the lights is back on and my uncle brud has hit for one dollar straight and they is good times good times good times my mama has made bread and grampaw has come and everybody is drunk and dancing in the kitchen and singing in the kitchen of these is good times good times good times oh children think about the good times Lucille Clifton

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A theme of Lucille Clifton's "good times" is that (10 points) life is transient. ingrained habits can be given up. motherhood sometimes has more frustrations than rewards. being poor can be frustrating. being the oldest child sometimes carries more family responsibilities. think its choice one or four

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hint: look (more closely) at the lines: my daddy has paid the rent and the insurance man is gone and the lights is back on and my mama has made bread

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

also look more closely at and my uncle brud has hit for one dollar straight

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think it is i been on this question for ever

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

think about it, my daddy has paid the rent....and the lights is back on So this means that her dad (and her family) couldn't afford to pay the rent or the electric bill, so they went without lights for some time. My guess is that the rent was a priority over the electric bill so they weren't evicted. then her dad paid both, and the lights were finally turned back on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so being poor can be frustrating?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, esp when you can't afford the basics like lighting or food (look at the line "my mama has made bread" and she says it's a good time, so something as simple as bread is a miracle...which means they couldn't even afford bread)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and and my uncle brud has hit for one dollar straight means that her uncle has gambled to get more money (at least I think it does, but not 100% sure)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks and i think this is second choice or fourth choice Stanza 2 (10 points) states the causes for celebration. presents the celebration. instructs the children to think about the good times. both the first and second choices above none of the above

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's not "instructs the children to think about the good times." because that's stanza 3 stanza 3 is oh children think about the good times

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'd say it's either A or B since they're very similar, it could be both A and B (which would make it D)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so which one do you think it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its B or D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

why not A?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

states the causes for celebration. isn't making bread a cause for celebration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now im thinking its D because they celbrate by drinking and is mama making break and granpa coming right

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah me too, you have both a reason to be happy and the happiness itself on display

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they were both wrong bye

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hmm which one was it?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well I guess that's why I don't like english and like to stick to math, sry

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but those answers made the most sense (wouldn't you agree?), so maybe there's a typo? I'd ask your teacher

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

(for future people that stumble across this) The answer is B) Presents the celebration I just took the test and got a 100%
