For the first one, according to my trusted book, a hyperbola has a negative sign between the two terms on left hand side.

It looks like this \[\frac{ (x-h)^{2} }{ a ^{2} }-\frac{ (y-k)^{2} }{ b ^{2} }=1\]I meant to say, it has negative between y-k
