OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I am making this the thread for the development of the OS app.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Here is the test version of it to make sure it makes sense. The sign up button does not work yet, but the get verification key does.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your kidding right? C# in the coding language on Windows Phone O.o.. I did not know that otherwise I could have helped you lol. @poopsiedoodle You should obstructed the program coding with an encryption of some sort. I know a couple free2use programs for this go head and send my a PM if you want. Since you didn't do that people could easily modify your program and bypass the Verification Key. Or worse get the password you used for the SMTP server. @ParthKohli it's a false positive. I think it's because the program uses SMTP servers which are generally use to make basic keyloggers. Of course this isn't that thou.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Well, I made it and I haven't gotten any viruses yet :P I thought VB worked for windows phone as well o-o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's Visual C# for Windows Phone. Source: http://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us I can easily help you with creating this. And I will but I won't be free until the weekend >.<

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Well, as long as I get help, I'm OK :P @preetha can I get a list of the subjects?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@poopsiedoodle Using GetElementById("join-groups") should give you the list of subjects. Listing them all would require you to updated the app every time a new subject was added, so try to use my method. private void Button1_Click(System.Object sender, System.EventArgs e) { WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("join-groups").InvokeMember("click"); } Would be the full code. Also you can make CSS and integrate it with WebBrowser1 to make a "Mobile" theme for you application.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is one going to be availabe for Andriod?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It says that the app apears malicious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@~Chance~ It's not malicious read my statement above. Also I've developed very little this for Android. I'll need to learn more before I can start anything in that section sorry. Although I dunno about poopsie...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Almost forgot. Poopsie... If there is no Id you can use: GetElementsByTagName instead.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FirstFrostByte Alright thanks for the info. Hope to see you on another thread soon. Have a good night from the East Coast, assuming you are on the West. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha I'm on the east side too. But thanks anyway. GetElementsByTagName would be needed for the Bump and Close Button. @poopsiedoodle

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I'll try it later. Spanish exam right now :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Well good luck. I'd do it my self but I haven't Download the SDK from Microsoft.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

ah. Well, if you do, get vb 2010 express.

OpenStudy (swag):

nice

OpenStudy (preetha):

@poopsie what list do you want? How about if it only works for Math first?

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Well, I'm going to start slow and test it subject by subject, but I need a list of all the subjects in OS.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

That's one of the menus for the app.

OpenStudy (opcode):

@poopsiedoodle If you look to the top of the page you will see "Find More Subjects" Just create a button on when clicked it will invoke "Find More Subjects" in a new window. For sub-subjects you can use the same method. If you went to list each subject it would be a major pain. OpenStudy already covers a lot of subjects, to list them all is just extra unnecessary work.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I made the main form :D

OpenStudy (preetha):

I think all you need to do is to: 1. Ask a question in Math 2: See last 5 questions in Math 3. Answer one of the last five q in math. 4. Give a medal 5. Invite someone to join. What do you think?

OpenStudy (preetha):

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Im surprised that this would be allowed by someone besides one of the Devs like Farm or Shadow.... Also is this only for the client side or..?

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Also for Mobile you will want either Java or Objective-C. Obj-C is iOS, Java runs on Windows mobile and for the most part on Android. GO is Android as well, w/e C offshoot will work on Windows Phone, as for VB,maybe VB.net, VB 6 doubt it unless it's exactly the same as the desktops/laptop architecture....

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Well, I'm using VB.net, so maybe that'll work.

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

VB is the worst language that can ever exist on earth. Android apps uses a dialect of Java and has an entirely different library for GUI works, so you can't just "port" android apps on Windows.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Well, right now I'm making it for windows. I'm rather good at VB, probably because it's easy. So, ya know. Btw, another screenshot coming soon.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Dat update doe.

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

woah tht looks nice

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

thanx d00d. :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol omg, poopsie, you my friend need windows 7 c:

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Yeah, XP sucks. :P

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Xp is great... @tyteen4a03 "VB is the worst language that can ever exist on earth. Android apps uses a dialect of Java and has an entirely different library for GUI works, so you can't just "port" android apps on Windows." First off VB is a great language, and a very old one. Yes it doesn't have objects, which is where .net comes in, but if you look at TIOBE's top languages, it's still #7 for a reason. As for Androids they use the DELVIK VM which converts Java classes into Delvik byte code, it cannot use AWT or Swing because of the native libraries and such that is needed; however Oracle has mentioned they have lab testings for Android and iOS using JavaFX, so we should see that soon. Also not sure what the mention of android on windows, since windows and android are 2 different OS's.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

my 3 xp computers all suck. And one of them has like... 79 out of 110~ GB of free space.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

xp was always the most stable, 7 is pretty good thugh.. Also what does the space have to do with anything...?

OpenStudy (preetha):

I am supporting this effort! Thanks for all the good work and also all the helpful guidance. Wouldnt it be cool if OpenStudiers actually developed this!

OpenStudy (preetha):

I am supporting this effort! Thanks for all the good work and also all the helpful guidance. Wouldnt it be cool if OpenStudiers actually developed this!

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I thought that more free space made computers faster...

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

but yeah, I wouldn't mind a complete list of subjects (sub-groups don't have to be included though).

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

There are many things that influence a computer's speed. Having 80 out of 100 gigs isn't equal to having 800gigs out of 1 tb. There are many levels of "Crap" including spyware and such, as well as junk. The components also determine the speed.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

I am willing to help with this project, though I'm not sure if VB is the right language to do this... Also again is this for a client application, or are we going mobile? Not too sure why one would want a computer based application if OS is already on the web.... also science it is on the web, you would need to be connected via Client/Server and I'm not sure you want VB for that... OS uses Scala(Java based lang using JVM) as well as I believe some Java, so I would go with using Java or one of their offshoots for this task personally.

OpenStudy (opcode):

I'm sure C# is what that most used language that programs use on the Windows Phone.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Possibly, because it is a Microsoft product.....

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

But C# is useless on Android and iOS....

OpenStudy (opcode):

So does that make C it self useless for Android?

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Well, I'm making it for just desktop and laptop right now, I guess. And, I'm using VB.NET because it's actually the only language I'm good at.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Stop with VB.NET. Start learning C. Trust me.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

BUT AH DUN WANNA. :<

OpenStudy (preetha):

There is room for many apps. As with all advice, take what makes sense. These are well meaning folks. If you want to do it with something else, go for it. If you succeed, more power to you. If you don't succeed, don't worry about it and try again. You will have learned something. I am rooting for you!

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Thanks! :P By the way, your comments keep double-posting.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Yeah as Preetha said keep on at it, if anything it's a learning experience for gaining knowledge. I do it all the time. Even if you're a master at your language, there are still certain things you can continue to improve on and learn. I do it all the time, and it's especially great when you have an idea, or someone gives you an idea. I don't know how VB.NET will do, but it raised up 12 spots since last year, so we can only hope right? :) http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html

OpenStudy (preetha):

I do not know why.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

and yeah Preetha has done that a few times, it's admin hax imo :p.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

I personally recommend the TIOBE index for everyone who is serious about programming because it shows soo much info, and the trends over the past decade. When I posted my tutorial on the "Best languages," you always need to consider THE FUTURE! What devices can my code run on? Desktops are the past, Laptops are also "the past" Mobile is the future. Tablets, Phones, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Virus alert. Do not download the exe file

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

It is not a virus. =_=

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

This has been explained above.

OpenStudy (swag):

@RyanL. it is not a virus

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I'm adding in a filter for names! :D

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

@FirstFrostByte If InStr(Text1.Text, "Hitler") Then FormWhatever.Show() End If

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

lemme get a screenshot of said filter.

Parth (parthkohli):

Wait, is that VB

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

yes.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

@dmezzullo

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

@uri

Parth (parthkohli):

Jaja, at the title.

Parth (parthkohli):

of the popup.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

:P

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

BAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA POOP THAT LAST ONE IS THE BEST!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

:3

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Now I need to look up a list of bad words to filter.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Like, uncommon ones.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Could i be of any assistance in this making?

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

with the list?

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Anything with making it or finding words or watever?

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Sure :3

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

AAAAAAAAND, if you want to help extra, let me know.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Ok well msg me on what u want me to do.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Actually, I'll tell you here.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

ok

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

for the list, I'm using this code: If InStr(TextBox1.Text, "badword1") Then My.Settings.InappropriateName = 1 Form9.Show() ElseIf InStr(TextBox1.Text, "badword2") Then My.Settings.InappropriateName = 1 Form9.Show() I need you to replace badwordblah with the bad word. Every time it says Form9.Show() Press Enter and then start another block with Elseif. So, it'll be like this: If InStr(TextBox1.Text, "HITLER") Then My.Settings.InappropriateName = 1 Form9.Show() ElseIf InStr(TextBox1.Text, "Hitler") Then My.Settings.InappropriateName = 1 Form9.Show() ElseIf Instr, etc.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

and for each word, I need an ALLCAPS, Onecaps and nocaps version.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Im lost nvm, im not a computer genius i thought it would be easier, Sorry i cant help.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

in that case, just give me a list without the code :P

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

So msg u words that need to be coded?

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

or put it here?

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I guess so :P or just make a list in notepad and attach it.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

btw, I already have Hitler and F.ag in there.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

ok

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

And I'll handle all the common bad words like f*ck and sh*t.

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Oh wow lol i was jus gettin a msg ready with those lol

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

If people see my code, they're going to wonder what in the world I'm doing. It has more curse words than a sailor even knows.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Test the signup name filter. You only need to change the userame. @SWAG @Umar97
