Simplify the following expression: (5x2 + 3x + 4) − (2x2 + 5x − 1). If the final answer is written in the form Ax2 + Bx + C, what is the value of A?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[(5x^2+3x+4)-(2x^2+5x-1) = 5x^2+3x+4-2x^2-5x-(-1)=3x^2-2x+5\] Note well the - in front of the second parenthetical expression means that we have to change the sign of each term, so that -1 become a +1. Overlooking such things is a frequent source of mistakes!
