Help!!! Photons of energy 7.0 eV strike a metal whose work function is 2.3 eV. KE of the most energetic photoelectron is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. 5.2 eV. b. 3.8 eV. c. 4.7 eV. d. 7.4 eV. e. 9.3 eV.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

The KE_max of the emitted photoelectrons is given by E - W where E is the energy of the impinging photons and W is the work function. Think of the work function as the amount of energy that gets used up knocking an electron free, and the rest of the energy becomes the kinetic energy of the photoelectron.
