Find the shortest distance from the given point to the given line. Round to the nearest tenth, if necessary. ( 6 , 5 ) and 7x + y + 23 = 0

There's a formula/equation that describes the shortest distance between a line and a point; Let's called P a point (P1,P2) and Ax+By+C=0 a line, the the shortest distance between 'em is given by \[\dfrac {|AP_{1}+BP_{2}+C|} {\sqrt {A^2+B^2}} \] Now, just replace what you have, your point is (6,5) so P1=6 and P2=5, A=7, B=1 and C=23 Got it?
