OpenStudy (anonymous):

When Macbeth tells his wife about what the witches said, his wife is the one who first tells him to kill Duncan, Macbeth does so, though he's somewhat resistant at first, but as the story progresses he becomes more corrupt and immoral. His wife who instigated the first murder starts to go a little crazy and eventually kills herself out of horror and remorse for the chain of events she has started. Macbeth orders the murders of an innocent man and a young child and this triggers his downfall, he is later left by all his counsel and soldiers who help to overthrow him, seeing him only as an evil tyrant.
