Please help me start:: Find all values of x such that (x,1,x) and (x,-6,1) are orthogonal.

hartnn (hartnn):

if the vectors are orthogonal, their dot product =0 do you know how to take dot product ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 - 6 + x? or x^2 + x - 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i take it i should factor and set them = to 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x = -3, 2 ?

hartnn (hartnn):

they both are same just equate that =0 and you will get a quadratic which needs to be solved. can u ?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, do it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, the quadratic? yea, one sec please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha! I got the same 2 answers. -3 and 2. thank you

hartnn (hartnn):

x=-3,2 is correct.

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^
