Which of these problems can be best solved through community action? A) Conner is thinking about joining the high school basketball team, but he is not very tall and he feels inferior to other boys his age. B) Rebecca, who lives in a town with inadequate medical facilities, needs to see a doctor regularly to monitor her diabetes. C) Thierry often leaves his bike by the back stairs, making it difficult for others to pass without tripping or scraping themselves on it.

So, here we have three problems. Two of these problems can really only be solved through individual action. For instance, look at problem A. Conner feels inferior, because he is not as tall as the other boys on the basketball team. Can you see how that's more of a self-esteem issue, than a community issue? In order to solve that problem, we would need to tackle the insecurities in Conner's mind. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, take a look at problem B. Rebecca has diabetes. And her diabetes is a problem. But the bigger problem is that her town has inadequate medical facilities. What this means is that her town doesn't have the right kind of medical equipment, in order to help keep her healthy. This is more of a community problem, than an individual problem. There's nothing that Rebecca can do, all by herself, that would correct the problem. Conner, in problem A, can learn to feel better about himself. And Thierry, in problem C, could learn to frikkin move his bike to a better location. But Rebecca cannot solve her problem, by herself.

so.....the answer is B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. In order to help Rebecca, the community could put money into improving the medical facilities. The other two people can solve their problems on their own.
