The Miracle Worker is the dramatic interpretation by William Gibson of Helen Keller's autobiography. The original adaptation was a 1957 play. It has since been made into a movie several times and performed multiple times around the world. n the story, young Helen Keller, deaf and blind since childhood, is brought out of an almost feral existence by her teacher, Annie Sullivan. Arriving at the Keller home just before Helen's seventh birthday, Sullivan teaches Helen through a variety of methods, encountering some resistance from Helen's frustrated family. Eventually, Helen learns the connection between objects, language and communication through sign language and, ultimately, rudimentary speech.
