In Sophocles's ancient Greek tragedy Antigone, the character of Antigone chooses to follow her own conscience and oppose the power of the state as embodied by Creon, the ruler of Thebes. In contrast, Creon states that disobedience to the law is the greatest evil. Which character's position or actions do you tend to agree with? In your world, under what circumstances would opposition like Antigone’s be justified? Is Creon's adamant belief in the purpose and power of the law ever justifiable? Do you think such a belief is a trait of a good ruler or a bad ruler?
