HELP!! IMPORTANT!!!!! What are 2 causes and 2 effects of =1566-Violence erupts between Calvinists and Catholics in the Netherlands?
The Catholics were being pulled in by the Spanish Habsburgs. The Habsburgs eventually got part of the Netherlands and turned it into Spanish Netherlands present day Belgium. The Dutch although religiously tolerant still had some hatred towards the Catholics and were scared of them at the same time. What caused violence between Calvinists and Catholics anywhere? Calvin hated Catholics and wherever he had influence people violently tore down Catholic churches and monasteries... often killing the inhabitants Rioting erupted between the Calvinist poor and the rulers of the Netherlands, the Catholic monarchy in Spain. The riots occurred in the summer of 1566 – a time of high grain prices. In Antwerp, on six successive evenings, crowds armed with axes and sledgehammers went after things they claimed were of false doctrine. They destroyed a large part of the interior of Antwerp's Cathedral of Our Lady. They sacked over thirty churches, burned libraries and smashed sculptures and tombs.
so one of the causes would be because the dutch hated the Catholics
The spurring between the split of the christian faith always occurred they (dutch) also had influence from the Spaniards to their catholic religion which the Calvinists that recently migrated there didn't agree with.
ok...so it was because the Calvinists didn't agree with the christian/catholic faith that they fought?
Calvinistic is a part of the christian faith but have different views than the Catholics about the bible this is what caused the peace to break
ok..so it was because they believed the others were teaching false doctrine and they wanted to eliminated each other so only the "truth" was taught...right?
thats correct!
and thank you so much...for some reason this is hard for me to understand :/
in my book it also says that there was economic, social, and political forces that played a role in the conflicts, do you think I should include that? because I don't really understand how that would be a cause....
