I would think the mode because you can pick out which animal appears most frequently in your data. Although mean and median are measures of central tendency as well, I don't know if they would be that useful in such a small sample. However I suppose they are valid as well. What would be the mean? The average number of animals of each type I suppose. The median would require organizing your data from smallest to largest (perhaps # of animals of each type, in increasing order). I guess those all 3 (mode, median and mean) are valid as they are measures of central tendency, but I'm not sure if the question is asking for the "best(s)" measure(s).
