Please help! Please help! Multiple choice question!!! Will give medal! Sean is saving up to buy a new computer. He has $120 saved and wants to have a total of $600 saved in 12 months. Which number is a reasonable amount for him to save each month, $30, $40, or $50?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He would need to save up $480 in those 12 months. So 480 divided by 12 is 40. So $40 a month.

OpenStudy (lilai3):

that's what i got too thank you! but one question: why couldn't it be like $50? my classmate said that it could be $50 too, and her answer was pretty reasonable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well it could be $50 if he wanted to, but that's not what the problem is asking for. If he saved $50 then he would only need to save $50 a month for nine months then $30 for the last month. But again, the problem is asking for how much to save each month for 12 months, not nine. :P

OpenStudy (lilai3):

ohhh thank you!!!

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

It may not be reasonable for Sean to save $50 each month if he can only afford to set aside $40.

You're welcome x3

If you need any other help I'll be glad to help.
