Can you write 18/20 as a mixed number? Explain to me please.
Hey d
its just telling you to reduce
-3- that helps a lot
It doesn't say in my lesson how to do this :\
A mixed numeral is a number that has a whole number part and a fraction part. The fraction part is less than 1. The fraction 18/20 is less than 1, so there is no whole number part to it, so it can't be written as a mixed numeral.
Ohhhhhh
The only fractions that can be written as mixed numerals are improper fractions, whose numerator is greater than the denominator.
Omg now I get it :D
The way you change an improper fraction into a mixed numeral is to first reduce the fractio if needed. Then do the actual long division of the numerator and denominator. The whole number result is the whole number part of the mixed numeral. Then you set the remainder over the denominator of the original improper fraction as the fractio0n part of the mixed numeral. Example: write 28/5 as a mixed numeral 28 divided by 5 is 5 with remainder 3, so the mixed numeral is 5 3/5
