You have an 8-cm by 5-cm rectangle plus a half circle with 4 cm radius. Do you know the folrmulas for the areas of a rectangle and a circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know formula for the area of a circle....

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Ok, so you need half the area of a circle with radius 4 cm. The area of a rectangle is A = LW, where L = length and W = width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A = pi x r^2

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Right. Calculate that and divide by 2 because you have only half a circle. Then add that to A = LW, with L = 8 cm and W = 5 cm, which is the area of the rectangle.
