How do I calculate the kinetic energy absorbed per square foot of surface of a rotor placed in water flowing at some constant speed, say 4 mph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinetic energy=.5*m*(v^2)

I know that the kinetic energy is equal to one-half the mass times the velocity squared, what I'm asking is how much of that energy is transferred to the rotor by virtue of it being in that flow?
