what is 3+(4+q)2=15 using distributive property to solve equations

OpenStudy (rosedewittbukater):

You are solving for q, right? Well distribute the 2 by multiplying it to both values in the parentheses first. Add 3 + 8. Then subtract 11 from both sides. You are trying to get the variable q on one side of the equals sign by itself. And lastly, divide both sides by 2. Then you have q by itself, meaning that q equals 2. 3 + 8 + 2q = 15 11 + 2q = 15 2q = 4 q = 2
