solve 4h - 6 = 22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start by moving the to the RHS by adding six to both sides 4h-6+6=22+6 4h=28 Can you solve from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no where does the 6 come in at

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we are allowed to add any number we want if we add it to the other side as well. This said we choose our numbers because we want to have the h variable isolated so adding 6 to the LHS cancels the -6 isolating the h variable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 4h-6=22 so move the 6 to the RHS 4h=22+6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now, 4h = 28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u calculate further

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the same rule applies with multiplication and division so you tell me what you think we want to divide by in order to isolate h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide by 7 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

22 + 6 28/4 4(7) - 6 = 22 h = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope the number in front of the h is 4 so we would like to get rid of that. In order to do that we should divide both sides by 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@msingh if you didn't notice I am working through it with him I would appreciate if you would not just post the answer thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kira3 I will still try to help you understand if you want my help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@whatisthequestion i would appreciate it but after you divide both side by 4 what happens

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the LHS is now just h so it is equal to the RHS or h=(28/4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well instead of writing 28/4 can i just write 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I just wanted to stress that both sides were divided by 4 to you infact 7 is the better answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks
