Why was the First Crusade more successful than the following seven Crusades?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In general, the First Crusade regained Jerusalem and established Crusader states in the Holy Land collectively referred to as the Outremer. It was by far the most successful of the Crusades. The next few after that were either failures or narrow victories, scraping some success though falling short of the First Crusade's accomplishments. One of these, the Fourth Crusade, was infamous for pitting Christians against Christians in sacking Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, in order to place a puppet on the throne turning the city into a brief Latin kingdom.
