x^2 + x > 3 Solve the inequality in terms of intervals. Interval notation. Medal!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do I try to make it a square? subtract the 3 and use the quadratic formula? I'm stuck. please help!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Set it equal to 0. It won't factor so use the quadratic formula. The roots are: \[\frac{-1\pm \sqrt{13}}{2}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

in decimal form: 1.3 and -2.3

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So the factors are: (x-1.3)(x+2.3)
