are the ordered pairs(-2,-1),(-1,0)(6,3) and (-2,-1) a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the domain and range

OpenStudy (mertsj):

A function is a set of ordered pairs in which no two ordered pairs have the same first number. So is it a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Good job. The domain is the set of x values and the range is the set of y values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help me understand that im a little confused on that part

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Do you know which is the x value of an ordered pair and which is the y value?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea the first number in the pair is x second is y

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So what are the x values of your ordered pairs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2,-1,6,-2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So put them in order (don't list any number twice), put braces around them and that's your domain.....the set of x values. Do the same with the y values and that will be the range.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i dont put -2 twice??

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Did you see where I typed not to list any number twice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yea just wanted to be sure this is very important to my grade right now

OpenStudy (mertsj):

{-2,-1,6} That's the domain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks a bunch you rock

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yw. Don't forget to do the range.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will do
